Dear sister and brothers, what do you ask of God and God’s holy Church?

Candidates

          Reply

We ask for God’s merciful love
and for the grace of serving God more perfectly
as sisters and brothers in the Order of the

Companions of Saints Francis and Dominic.

Spiritual Director

Let us bless the Lord who has chosen you
to walk with us in newness of life.

Thanks be to God!

Call To Discipleship

Officiant

My dear brothers and sisters,
by water and the Holy Spirit
you have already been consecrated in baptism to God.
Are you now resolved to unite yourselves more closely to God
by the bond of religious profession?

Candidates

I am.

Officiant

In your desire to follow Christ more perfectly,
are you resolved to live with a pure heart,
for the sake of the kingdom of heaven,
to embrace detachment from worldly possessions,
to offer the sacrifice of obedience, and to
promise a life of universal citizenship, non-violence and compassionate service
to all of creation?

Candidates

I am.

Officiant

May Almighty God then grant you this grace and complete the holy work which has been begun in you.

All

Amen.

Officiant

Let us pray.
Creator God, look lovingly upon these servants.
In their desire to imitate Your Son Jesus Christ,
in His poverty and crucifixion, in the manner of our
Seraphic Father Saint Francis and Saint Dominic,
they are resolved to dedicate their lives to you,
through the profession of the ancient evangelical counsels
in the presence of Your Church tonight.
Pour out Your Holy Spirit of love upon their hearts,
that they may be dedicated to Your service,
sincere in their love for You,
able to fulfill their religious profession with a cheerful heart,
and preserve it faithfully,
and with spiritual joy, advance along the way of love.
We ask this as we ask all things, in the Name of Jesus Christ,
our Redeemer and Brother.

All

Amen.

Candidates

The friars and sisters who are making their profession kneel before their Officiant and Spiritual Director.  In one voice, they proclaim:

Since for the glory of God,
the Lord has given me this grace,
of living more perfectly and with firm will
the Gospel of Jesus Christ,
in the presence of the assembled community,
and into your hands, Father,
vow for one year (three years, forever)
to live in holy obedience,
without attachment to any worldly goods,
and with a pure and loving heart,
according to the Rule of Life
of the Companions of Saint Francis and Saint Dominic.

Therefore, with all my heart,
I give myself to the community and to the Church,
that through the work of the Holy Spirit,
the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary,
our Father Francis and Father Dominic,
and all the saints, and with the help of my brother
and sisters, I may fulfill my consecration to
the service of God and God's Church.

The Officiant then takes the hands of each novice between his own hands, and they individually say:

This I promise.

The Provincial Minister follows behind the Officiant taking each novice's hands between his own in the same manner (although the novice do not say anything to the Provincial Minister).

Officiant

And I, (Officiant’s Name and Title), in the name of the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, and on behalf of our community, receive your vows, and on the part of Almighty God, if you observe them, I promise you everlasting life.

Provincial Minister

Dear brothers and sisters, you received the habit when you became novices. Tonight you receive the habit of penance, the Tau Cross, the Crown Rosary and the thrice knotted cord, as a sign of your consecration, that it may be for you a bond of the love of poverty.

A song is played, while each friar and sister puts on their scapular, their cord, the Cross and their Crown Rosary.

Provincial Minister

Hands each newly professed member a copy of the Rule of Life and Constitution.

Receive, my brothers and sisters, the Rule of our Order,
the book of life, and the marrow of the Gospel,
the way of perfection,
that by observing it
you may obtain perfect charity.
